Alex Lukas - Underneath Providence, Findings Thus Far
Thanks to all those that came out to Alex Lukas fantastic presentation tonight!
Underneath Providence, Findings Thus Far will present the history of the East Side Railroad
tunnel which runs underneath College Hill in Providence, Rhode Island. Beginning with is
construction and opening one hundred years ago, this railroad tunnel has been a silent witness to Providence’s boom as a hub of commerce and manufacturing in the early part of last century,through its decline with the loss of manufacturing jobs, up to the “renaissance” of the late 1990’s. Abandoned and largely forgotten today, the tunnel has served many functions through its century long history, from commuter route, to college party spot, to graffiti writer’s hall of fame.
